O’Keefe, has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Tohono O’odham Ki:Ki Association (TOKA), the housing entity of the Tohono O’odham Nation. The Tohono O’odham Legislative Council made the appointment under Resolution No. 26-190, passed on June 10, 2026, and approved by Tohono O’odham Nation Chairman Verlon M. Jose on June 12, 2026. Mr. O’Keefe will serve a term ending February 29, 2028, or until his successor is appointed.   The TOKA Board of Directors is made up of five voting members appointed by the Legislative Council to staggered four-year terms. Under Title 18 of the Tohono O’odham Code, board members must have sufficient education and experience in housing, construction, business, and finance to provide oversight of TOKA in support of its mission of providing safe, affordable, and well-constructed housing for members of the Nation. Mr. O’Keefe’s appointment followed the Council’s Board Appointment Guidelines, including review of his application and background investigation and an interview by the Council’s Housing Committee, with recommendations for appointment from both the Housing Committee and the Rules Committee.   Mr. O’Keefe’s appointment comes as TOKA receives national recognition. On September 3, 2026, at the National Tribal Housing Summit in Washington, D.C., U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner presented the inaugural HUD Secretary’s Awards for Excellence in Tribal Communities. TOKA received the Supporting Native Youth Award for a historic first: on-reservation housing dedicated to foster youth. The secure campus serves up to 45 Native youth, protecting family stability and cultural connection within the Tribal community. Mr. O’Keefe was in Washington to accept the award from Secretary Turner on behalf of the TOKA Board and staff.   “It is a privilege to be entrusted by the Legislative Council with a seat on the TOKA Board, and to have been in Washington as Secretary Turner recognized what TOKA’s team has built for the Nation’s foster youth,” said Mr. O’Keefe. “Safe, well-built housing is the foundation of a strong community. I look forward to bringing my experience in business, finance, and government compliance to the Board’s work and to supporting TOKA’s mission for the members of the Tohono O’odham Nation.”    Mr. O’Keefe founded HR Wise in 2008.
